Coach Jeff Fisher announced on Wednesday that cornerback Pacman Jones has been suspended for one game. Thus he will not be part of the line-up for Sunday’s game against Jacksonville. This suspension just took place after Jones was cited for a misdemeanor assault charge over the weekend.
Jones has been charge for having Jones spit in the face of a female student from Tennessee State University during a private party at a Nashville nightclub early last Thursday morning. The 21-year-old student, Krystal Webb alleged in a police report that Jones became verbally abusive and spit on her face and hair during an altercation at Club Mystic. Jones is scheduled to court to the court on Nov. 17th on the misdemeanor assault charge.
It is not the first time that Jones run-in the law. This event is already the seventh time that he has been either the subject of a police investigation or a so-called "person of interest" in a legal matter since he joined the team. He has already been arrested by police three times. And it’s his second in the past three months. Eventually, it’s the second time he has been accused of spitting on a woman at a night spot. Indeed, he was arrested in Murfreesboro and charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct in last August. Jones was already scheduled to go to court in Jan. 11 for the Murfreesboro case. With this new incident, the NFL will likely sanction the player according to the personal conduct policy.
Jones, a former West Virginia University star, was a first-round selection in the 2005 draft of the Titans. While he had already a history of off-field problems in college, he was the sixth overall player chosen that year. Fisher informed Jones about the suspension the action after practice on Wednesday. His suspension comes in the wake of one of the best performances of his career, when last week he posted the first interception of his career and returned a punt for a touchdown. Jones will be replaced by fourth-year veteran Andre Woolfolk. The cornerback was a first-round pick in the 2003 draft.
